Cavendish Hotel and our exercise for the day

IMG_1822 IMG_1825 In Baslow, we checked into Cavendish Hotel (pictured above, left), which is situated on the Chatsworth Estate in the Peak District, a area famous for its national park. The hotel is a very nice old building. We like the concierge, Derek, and older man who cheerfully helped us with our luggage and told us about the path to Chatsworth House.  There was even a teddy bear named Huggies sitting on our bed to greet us when we arrived. Our window overlooked a vast green field that goes on for miles and miles (above, right). We know that no only because we can see it but we walked from the hotel, across the field, past another field that goes on forever and ever, passed a river, crossed a bridge and several gates before we arrived at Chatsworth Estate.

It was a lovely walk - a very English thing to do, I'm told - but needless to day, it took ages before we arrived at Chatsworth House, the residence of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire. It wasn't just a house. It was a humongous place, with stables, servant quarters, guard house, farmyard etc. The guard told us that they only live in a small section of this house, and often have guests visiting and staying in other sections...
