Pulled tea

Malaysian teh tarik © Evelyn Howard 2010

A popular local drink in Malaysia is teh tarik (translation: teh is tea and tarik is pulled). The name reflects how the tea is made. This can sometimes be quite a spectacle, with the hand pouring the hot tea extending high over the maker’s head, while the other hand holding a container to receive the tea is placed as low as possible. The continuous pouring of the tea over a distance looks like the tea is being pulled…

As a result, the tea is frothy at the top. It’s very sweet, but delicious.

I'd like to give it a try. It looks great and I can even see reflections in the bubbles. :)

I sometimes pour water onto a teabag from a height - it brews quicker that way, if you make tea in a mug instead of a pot! Mine isn't sweet though. Ugh!
