Succulent

Succulent painting © Evelyn Howard 2010

This is a piece I completed for Twenty Minute Challenge.

I am exploring a new style. I wanted this piece to have a balance of white and coloured areas, without looking unfinished. If I could go back and do it all over again, I would have softer outlines as well as highlights for the plants/painted areas. I could also play with painting/drawing one area with lots of details, and leaving other areas quite sketchy…

It has been a fun piece and there are many ways to explore this idea further. I would love to know what you think.

I like the how some bits are left white but your own ideas of improvement sound good too.

Dear Evelyn,
The work looks nice! Particularly, colors are vivid. But please be kind to yourself. Me, too, am exploring a new style. It's fun.
Kind regards, Sadami

I've said it before but I love how you choose your colors! I especially like the way you colored the vines :D

I like it, Evelyn. The balance between color and white works for me. And I don't mind the harder outlines... gives the image a but of punch. Nice work.
