While in Hong Kong a few months ago, we boarded a ferry to this island.
We didn’t know this then, but according to wiki, actor Chow Yun Fatt (of Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon) grew up on this island, where his family still operates a restaurant.
It was very different from Hong Kong…. It was quiet and the main mode of transportation was by bicycle or on foot. There are no roads wide enough for cars.
We found a number of bicycles parked. I guess the owners leave the bikes to walk uphill – see next photo.
A very hilly bit with a narrow walkway.
A photo taken at a temple on the island
One last watery shot before we leave Lamma Island.

I like that bike with the cane child seat!
Hi Evelyn,
Thank you for visiting my blog and leaving a comment. I appreciate it.
I had fun going through recent entries.
As for leaving the bikes and walking uphill,I guess it is worth doing so to have nice view!
Thanks for sharing.
Wow, thanks for sharing these other photos of Hong Kong, other than the ones of the big city. Wish to be able to visit someday.
Watery Wednesday
hey, thanks for the authentic pictures here..esp the place chow yun fatt was born.. :)
Great shots.
I'd heard that the islands around Hong Kong are great for getting away from the crowds. Looks like a lovely place.
Hie, Evelyn,
Your photos are always something heartwarming. Lovely.
Cheers, Sadami
Wonderful photos Evelyn. Thank you so much for sharing!
That certainly looks a slower pace than Hong Kong. Great shots and good info.
Great photos, Evelyn! Only bicycles or walking...I imagine that would keep everyone healthy! Great that you got to see this part of HongKong as well :-)
I heard about this place, but never been there! I was in Hongkong for a weekend, what I did was slept all day in a hotel. I was so tired to go out :)
Your photographs are wonderful! I'm so glad I visited and saw your work. I am so jealous of those photos I can't stand it. We were supposed to go last April and had to cancel (my knee). I know I missed a trip of a lifetime. Your photos confirm that thought. I also like your city scape. Street scenes are a favorite of mine. Great work Evelyn.
@ LW Roth: Hello, thanks for visiting me here! I hope your knee is better now and you can plan a trip soon :)
I enjoyed yor photos, thank you for sharing them! :)
I geuss they'll get around with bikes:)
I just keep going back to the first one. Such an adventure you had!!
These were great. I really enjoy seeing photos of other cultures. Thanks for sharing.
Great post! =)
Oh, this is the Hong Kong so few outsiders know and I adore. We often take the ferries, preferably the slow ones, to the outlying islands, just to walk and eat! You've done a marvelous job of capturing the place in this photo journal. Haven't been much this year and I hear the call.
