N Seoul Tower on Namsan Mountain

N Seoul Tower © Evelyn Howard 2010

This satellite tower is on Namsan Mountain, located in central Seoul. I love this sculpture.

We came up via cable car in the afternoon. That gave us enough time to look around the mountain before settling down to take in the sunset.

We found a great spot to view the light change over the city…

while eating Pajeon or Korean style pancakes. It went really well with beer.

As the day became night, it was nice to see the city lights come on… This shot was taken from our cable car as we left the mountain.

Locks of Love

This is an interesting deck at the base of the tower. We had time to look around before sunset.

There were lots of padlocks and love notes…

So many padlocks that we can’t quite see through the railing anymore…

I love the idea… a great installation

Close-up on some love notes. We did not add any padlock to the deck…

Great shots over the city pity about the smog. What an interesting tradition the Locks of Love.

Dear Evelyn,
Thank you for the beautiful and interesting photos. Oh, the Korean food looks so yummy. And so many padlocks!! How come?! Do young couples want to lock up their love forever?! Hahahahaha, Cute.
Cheers, Sadami

Cool pictures. The padlock thing - I've seen it in Italy and one other place. Must be pretty common but not in the US. The pancake - mmmmm.

Really like the "flying man", awesome series of shots. The padlocks make for an interesting photo. Why are there all there?

Love the sunset shot. ^_^

Was hoping to go Korea someday, maybe 2 years from now.

Those padlocks are something else -- as are the bent benches!!! What's up with those??? Your photos really capture some unique features of the locale :)

@xinme: Well spotted. At first I thought the one on the left is broken, but the one on the right seems like it is bent too. I have no idea what is with the benches!

Those pancakes look delicious - I'm having a beer right now and wish I had them to eat with it.

Beautiful shot of the tower reaching the sky. The view of the city from top is great.

Wow - amazing shots. Love all those locks, but my favourite is that flying sculpture. It's magnificent!

I've been up that tower, too! I love your city shot from above, especially the evening photo :-D

I'm hungry for korean food now!

This is a place I will likely never see for myself so thank you for posting it!

I love Korean pancakes!

But I don't buy the padlock idea.
Why do people have to try so hard to prove to others, to impress others that they can be together forever?
Rather silly, pointless and superficial really.
It's really the heart that counts.

Plus, that can cause possible soil contamination. You know, rain, rust, earth, ground water...

I really love your perspective in that first shot! Looks like the guy jumped! The view was phenomenal! But it's all those padlocks and love notes that have me entranced! WHat a unique idea!

Another superb photo travel journal. That first one with the metal sculpture you took at a great angle. A small synchronicity: earlier this week I too was looking at my photos of a collection of love locks that I took at the Zhangjiajie Park with the pinnacles. That'll get posted some day. Nice, Evelyn.

Interesting! I'm already tired of Chinese/Taiwanese Culture (shhh, what I mean is I know almost) and now ready to explore others... next to my lists are Japan and Korea :)
