Shopping in Kyoto

Covered shopping centre in Kyoto © Evelyn Howard 2010

Covered shopping space. There are many shopping spaces which were below ground, but this one is at ground level. Since it rained a lot while were were there, we were glad to have covered shopping areas.

We also visited some covered markets.

Lots of interesting foodstuff… I am guessing that these are pickled vegetables.

There are all sorts of foodstuff. They are really nice to look at, but I felt a little lost. I am guessing more picked vegetables.

Japanese dessert in water © Evelyn Howard 2010

Dessert floating in water. We bought one of this little dessert, and it was immediately scooped out of the water and into a little plastic container (plus spoon) for us.

There was a temple along one of the covered shopping strip.

I enjoyed shopping in Kyoto. There were many well-designed local goods (as opposed to international brands found in most big cities around the world). We bought a few beautiful things which were not too expensive… This will be another post I think.

Hope you are having a nice weekend.

when your credit card wants a rest, and you still want to do Japanese, there is a mall in Singapore called Jurong Point. They have a small part with lots of Japanese things. LOl

Your images often make me wish I could travel more. At least I can see these things through your eyes!

Yup, Kyoto is famous for "kyo-yasai" which are vegetables produced in Kyoto! I bought a couple of pickled raddish and cucumber the last time I was there, too :D

As always, your photos make me want to go visit again!

Dear Evelyn,
Wow, your professional and artistic view shows me wonderful Japanese scenes. Really amazing. I've never seen such wonderful beauty in Japan or in my memory no one took photo like you!!
I want to visit Japan to see them all.
Cheers, Sadami
