I enjoy browsing around a busy street market in the morning

Steamy hot mantou, with no fillings, eaten at mealtimes with savoury dishes.

Fish pastry with chocolate on the inside – I love this.

My first breakfast when I arrived a month ago. It was 2°C/36°F and I enjoyed holding and eating a steamy hot roll while walking around outside.

Skewered meat Beijing © Evelyn Howard 2011

Skewered meat – very popular in Beijing. This reminds me of satay in Malaysia.

We refer to this as Chinese Bacon and Eggs… It’s got all the same ingredients, only a different bread. See next photo.

Yummy (…and just as unhealthy as Bacon and Eggs)

My favourite vendor but I only came here once. They disappeared overnight.

Happy Weekend

Dear Evelyn,
Thank you for sharing yammy and beautiful photos. One finding! Fish pastry is on a Chinese market. I'm sure originally it's from Japanese "Taiyaki" stuffed with sweet red bean paste.
Cheers, Sadami

Dear Evelyn,
I sent you my email the other day in the comment, but then deleted (dont want to be public known). I visited Beijing yesterday. Maybe next time we'll have a chance to meet.
So many people yesterday. I'll share the photos this week.

I love this post. I eat most of these very often. Havent tried the fish pastry. I love jianbing, the hot roll. I love street vendors in general. There're not many in Macedonia.

Take care
D.

Yum yum what a great variety. Is it all hygienic?

Hi Diane
If it's freshly prepared and served hot, I think it's very safe.

Hi Sadami
I saw a variety in Koari's post. You may be right, but LOL, a chocolate one is hard to beat I think. :)

Cheers, Ev
