Homemade

Toast with strawberry and walnut © Evelyn Howard 2011

Toast with figs and walnut © Evelyn Howard 2011I posted the photo on the left of a breakfast in San Francisco, in my previous post.

Today, I tried to make it. I had to alter it a little, since I could find neither thick chunky bread nor figs.

My version (top photo) is fresh strawberries and walnut on mascarpone cheese on toasted bread, drizzled with honey.

My husband and I enjoyed it, but we both agree that it would be better with chunky bread on a griddle with olive oil, rather than toasted slices.

Oh, by the way, if you do try it, use lots of mascarpone cheese and honey! And I’d love to hear about what you think if you do try it.

Evelyn, such torture seeing this, I am eating hospital food! Back home tomorrow and I shall certainly try this when my figs are ripe.

Who needs Hyde Away Blues with a homemade breakfast like this???
Beautiful (and tempting) presentation.
Have a good weekend Evelyn! ;-)

Figs are hard to find Evelyn. You need a specialty gourmet market--or Christmas. But figs or no figs, this looks and reads delicious--actually your photograph of your rendition looks delicious--more so than the breakfast served out. Strawberries are beautiful--Food is beautiful worthy of painting and photographing.

Carole, I am sorry! Wow, a fig tree is such a treat. Take care, Evelyn

Linda, thanks. Yeah, I don't see around. I find figs too sweet on their own. But when I find some in the shops, I'd definitely try the other version.

> Thanks everyone for dropping by, have a nice weekend! Now I off to make my first poached eggs! (Yes, I've suddenly got the cooking bug)
