Looking out

Ipad painting © Evelyn Howard 2011

Staircases outside of apartment buildings always remind me of the US. In fact, I have not seen them anywhere else. I love them, as well as the many old buildings that I see in San Francisco. Our rented unit in San Francisco is in an street where there are many old buildings. This is a building across the road.

The origami crane reminds me of my Mom. When I was little (maybe about 5 years old), she taught me how to turn a flat piece of paper into a lovely 3 dimensional bird.

It's great to look out and to turn back the clock if possible sometimes!
Beautiful black and white sketch that brings old memories back.
So sweet that your mum had given you a cool perspective of looking out your world thru paper folding! It's a magic if we allow it to comes in:)

Hi,Evelyn,
Touchy drawing and the origami that I know well! Interesting, if we trace back the origin of it anthropologically.
Cheers,Sadami

I get a kick out of fire escapes too on old buildings with worn bricks covered with the grim of years of exposure. They're great in NYC particularly around Soho.
I also get a kick out of your architectural drawing. Nice ink work, very strong.

I think the crane is the first origami I learned, too! Love the monotone drawing. Very chic :D

Hmmm... you are right! External fire escapes are only in the States! Never thought of that... Nice subject for your "monochrome" sketch. There's something peaceful about origami, is there...?

I like the way you've put these two images together to create one sketch.

(And those old buildings with the fire escapes on the outside are so beautiful.)

So monochromatic- not normal for you, but very impactful. It's a great little combo!

I agree with you - there is something peaceful about origami. To me, perhaps it's to do with the material...
