Simple tools for outdoor painting

What do you take when you go out to draw or paint?

DSCN6690

I like to travel light, so here are my tools – a small watercolour pad, travel watercolour set, a piece of rag (in this case, an old sock), 2 pens, a water brush plus a small bag, which is just big enough for all the tools.

My favourite pens are 0.1 and 0.8 pigment liners. The water brush is handy for dabbing on colours.

Paint party Friday

Hope you have a happy weekend.

I keep putting those little kits together then going nowhere with it because my little sketches don't come out like yours. Awesome!

wow, your illustrations are beautiful. I love your style with watercolour and pen. I would love to have the confidence to sit outdoors and sketch but I fear I'll always be a behind closed doors sort of artist! your work is stunning!

I have a similar little set of pens and notebook in my bag at all times, and I loved seeing your little sketch... I have the same w&N travel set as that and it is just perfect isn't it... I would be lost without it...xx

I always keep the same supplies in my bag-- 1 or 2 of my rapidograph pens, my pentel water brush, a sketchbook and a small set of watercolors... but I don't end up doing much outdoor sketching. It is something that I want to try more. Your sketch is a great inspiration.

I rarely paint outside, but I draw, so I carry pen and pencil 99% of the time.
That page in your book is beautiful, so fresh.

Love it! I keep packing my kit around but can't seem to get myself to take it out and use it. I don't like people watching.

Your artwork is wonderful! I love it! One of my fav things about watercolors is the sketching with paint and you captured it superbly. Thanks for sharing your tools, I enjoy seeing what others use. I need to get me a water brush. :) Happy PPF!

Your piece is fantastic. Outdoor painting/drawing is something I've always wanted to try but thought I'd feel silly doing so I never have. Sad huh?

Keep it up.

I am thrilled at last to see what a waterbrush looks like. I've been wondering what you all have been using when you go out and about in plein air. Thank you Evelyn for this post. I've made my next shopping list.

The tools I bring when I go out sketching are more or less the same as the ones you bring, the waterbrush is totally indispensable ! Your watercolor sketch is so lovely, just the way a true watercolor should be like :-)
